Classes

So I am very far behind in writing on this thing.  I started a post last week and look its a whole week later.  Apparently I'm not very good at this blog thing.  :)  So for the past 2 weeks I have been teaching English classes on Tuesday afternoons, Wednesday mornings and afternoons, Thursday mornings, and Friday mornings and afternoons.  It has been a big learning experience but has also been very fun.  The morning classes are for the younger children.  It's supposed to be 10 to 12 yr olds but we have a couple of seven, eight, and nine year olds.  Which adds a different dynamic to the class.

Last week our morning classes exploded.  Renuevos is working with a local school and are trying to help with the kids.  The classes we are teaching are actually the first ones that they have had with this school.  The children's school is much different than ours.  First off they only go for 3 hours and have 2 breaks and a snack during that time.  Also the classes usually have 30-40 kids to one classroom and the classrooms are not that big.  They also do not have a very big place to play during their breaks, so the kids love running and playing at Renuevos.  It's hard to keep them on point and not asking for a recreo.  :)

Our (Bruna and I) first week of teaching we were supposed to have the kids from 9-12.  Well some kids where able to come in the morning at 9 and then others were able to come at 10:30.  So we were like, this is ok, we can make it work.  And we had maybe at the most 10 or 11 kids.  Well come to find out, that was just a sampling of what we were going to have.  By Wednesday the next week we had 38 kids show up at 10:30 and we were like...this ain't going to work.  Even splitting the class in 2 wasn't going work.  So the kids are now split into 2 groups.  One group from 9-10:10 and the other class from 10:30 to noon.  The reason why is because some kids have go to school at 10:30.  And this is working for now anyways.  But I'm not sure what is going to happen since I should start working in the clinic next week since Julie is leaving.  But the classes keep getting smaller, which was expected.  But we still have around 6 to 8 each a class.

It's interesting to see how each kid is different and how each one learns.  In my second class I have one boy, Joshua who is a handful and a half.  Always on the go.  It makes class interesting because he is always on the go and trying to teach him with everyone else makes me VERY tired.  But it's fun all at the same time.

In the afternoon we have the young adults.  The ages range from 16 or 17 to 20.  We again split the class into 2 classes but for a different reason this time.  We split it because some of the students speak more English than others.  So we didn't want to teach them stuff the same stuff they already know.  So I have the ones who speak more English.  I am constantly scratching my head trying to figure out how to teach.  I'm like first off, I'm a nurse!  Not a teacher!  Second, it's been a while since I was in school.  But I think the most difficult thing with the older ones is the fact that I'm having to figure out what the word is in Spanish.  I've already found some words that don't really translate into Spanish.  Also trying to explain the difference between squishy and mushy is kinda difficult.  :)  But I have been having fun with this class.  There are at the most 4 young adults that come.  And it's nice having a small class for once and one that kinda speaks English.

I'm sure there is more that I could write about but I want to get this published before it gets pushed off yet again!
Blessings
