Little about my past week
So lets see what happened since I've last written on here. The next couple of days at Renuevos weren't the typical days there. All the children both tweens and teens were studying for the national tests that were pushed off because of hurricane Nate. So we didn't have much to do Wednesday except get ready and try and figure out what we want to teach in our English classes. We found out that there are 2 different classes that we will be teaching. The teenagers, who know a little bit of English...actually quite a bit they just are afraid of speaking it. The other class will be the tweens. 10 to 12 yr olds who don't know any English. That class is going to be a little harder to teach. But I do believe we will be able to do it. Both classes start this week since the kids exams were this past weekend.
Thursday morning us foreigners went to a Bible study that they have for the leaders of CFCI's different campuses. This Bible study was held at the main headquarters so it was an adventure trying to figure out what buses to take to get there. We had to leave at 7:15 and didn't arrive until 8:15. The study is supposed to start at 8 but you know...Tico time. We were actually one of the first to arrive. The crazy thing is, is if we were taking a car it would have taken about 20 minutes to get there. But because we were on the bus it took us a hr. A lot of waiting in traffic and bus stops. The leader of the study was kind enough to translate for us. He is from Uruguay but felt called into mission when he retired. He likes to say that God can all anyone, cuz he used to be a CPA but is now he is a minister to missionaries. The study lasted till mid morning and then we had to find out way back.
In the afternoon's of Thursday's Chio has a Bible study for older teenage girls/young adults. This week was a little bit different than normal since the girls have been saving their money for months and they finally had enough to go to McDonald's. So off on the buses we went again. It was a reality check for me. God has greatly blessed me and how thankful am I for it? After the study was over, the day was over. So off we went home on yet another bus. I think I am finally kinda getting a hang of these buses. Well I should say...if I only have to take the pink bus (the one that goes to carpio) I will be good. :)
Friday morning was a little different for me again. Since I am normally supposed to teach English that morning and the kids weren't going to be coming I could have had the morning off. But Susie (the organizer of the clinic) was given a lot of sample medications from one of here doctor friends. So she had a lot of medication to organize. So I tagged along with Julie to the clinic to help organize the mediation. Its a little hard to do because the names are in Spanish. Some of them you could recognize but others it was a little difficult to figure out what they were. But luckily Susie was there and was able to help. So I spent the morning doing that and then around 12 we went to Las Gradas. This is a community in Carpio that is only accessible by a big hill and 120 stairs. The CFCI building that they had there is right on a the river. When hurricane Nate came along it washed away some of the buildings foundation. They had come building engineers come and look at the building and they said that it isn't really safe to be in. The building is a 2 story building, but the bottom level is basically a cage. It has a cement floor and chain link around the whole outside. The top level is an actual building. It has a storage room, a kitchen, a bathroom, and an open meeting area. But since the engineers said that is really isn't safe because if there was an earthquake the whole building could come down, we weren't able to do what they normally do on a Friday night. The children stayed on the bottom level and only in the 3 corners that still had a foundation. I know, in the states we wouldn't use the building. But when its the only building around that can be used, we use it. :) It will eventually get fixed but not until the rainy season is over, so they are looking at December/January to finally get the building fixed. They will also have to raise the money to fix the building.
I know I have more to tell you about Las Gradas but I will save that for another time. One, I want to post this and two I have to leave soon to go to Renuevos. I was also going to post some pictures but for some reason my phone is being annoying. :) I'll have to get those next time too.
Blessings
