Weekend #3
So I had this post all written out, pictures copied in and then my computer decided not to save my post and totally got rid of it. So I have to start all over. That being said I'm not sure this is going to go into that much detail cuz I want to get it done and out.
So I guess I should tell you about my last weekend. Since Julie wanted to visit the beach, Alvin and Chio started planning on going to the beach. They had a house picked out on AirBNB, a plan to rent a car, and everything else planned out. But the Tuesday before we were going to leave they had money taken from their bank account. It was just enough money that it caused them not to be able to go. So us foreigners went by ourselves. First, we had to book a place to stay, lets just say its a little interesting trying to find a place to stay when its all in Spanish. Second, we had to figure out how we were going to get there. So it was decided...by the bus of course. Thirdly, we had to figure out how long to go. Well since we were able to get the weekend off we left early Saturday morning and Susie let Julie take off Monday morning from the clinic and Monday afternoon from Kids Club. Which means we were able to stay until Tuesday morning.
Our trip started off with taking an uber to the bus station because per Alvin and Chio we would have had to take 2 buses and on of the stops was not in a good neighborhood. We got to the station and with our limited Spanish was able to purchase tickets heading out. The bus ride took about 3-3 1/2 hrs. I didn't time it to be sure. :) Once we got to Quapos we had to find out house. Luckily Julie was able to ask someone at the bus stop in Quapos and they were able to tell us where we needed to get off. So we were able to get off at the right stop to pick up our keys at the hostel. When we got to the hostel we were told our house needed to still be cleaned. We were told just a little bit longer. Well 3 hrs later we finally got the keys to our house.

But while we were waiting at the hostel we were able to see a sloth in a tree! That was very cool! We were also able to see some monkeys and a lizard right out of our front door at the house. Very very cool!
Once we finally got to our house we decided to go and try and find a beach that we were told was just a kilometer down a road. Well it turned out it was a little farther than that and also down a mountain and through a woods. The beach was beautiful though! Not what we are used to at home but beautiful in it's own way. It was fun to go swimming a little that night. But we couldn't stay that long cuz we didn't want to be walking back in the dark. As it was we had to walk a little bit in the dark cuz it gets dark so early here. After the beach, we made dinner and then tried watching some Spanish TV and then went to bed.
The next day we were going to go to Manuel Antonio National Park but when we woke up in the morning it was thunder storming so we decided to go the next day. Instead we went to a beach that is kinda right out of the park entrance. It was beautiful in it's own way. We stayed there until sunset which was about 5:30 and then went back home. We decided to try the restaurant El Avion out that night. The reason it's called El Avion is because it has an airplane sticking out the front. Since we are at the beach we have to eat seafood right? Well I did. Kinda anyways. I had popcorn shrimp with a pineapple smoothie! SO VERY GOOD!!! After dinner we went home and again tried to watch Spanish TV, only this time there were geckos in the house. So since Julie and Bruna are scared to death of lizards I became the lizard wrangler. :) I missed the first one, it ran away but I got the second one. :)
The next day (Monday), we got up and got ready to go to the park. Well once we got off the bus at the park entrance we found out that the park is closed on Mondays. Some guys that were there were like, you didn't know it's closed today? Didn't anyone tell you it's always closed on Mondays? So we ended up staying at the same beach we did as the day before. But we ended up doing a couple of different things. Bruna and Julie took surfing lessons and I used a boogie board. It was fun boogieing out in the water. :)
We had to leave early though because we had to buy our bus tickets for the next morning and to buy the tickets we had to go to Quapos. So while we were in Quapos we decided to explore the city and have dinner. So while we were there we had to find a place to eat. We found some restaurants but none of them were calling to us. So Julie being Julie decided to ask some police officers that were standing at a street corner what their favorite restaurant is. The officers told us about a couple of restaurants and even led us to a couple. But it turns out that they weren't their favorite. They were just showing us restaurants. Thanks to google translate we found out that they weren't even from Quapos and didn't know the city that well. But they did lead us to a good restaurant and I was able to get another pineapple slushy.
The next morning we caught our bus back to San Jose without difficulty and I was actually able to use wifi they had on the bus to call for an uber. Once we got home we ate lunch and then Bruna and I were off to Renuevos to teach an English class. Well I think that is all that I wanted to say. Hopefully now it will let me post it.
