Camp

So I a lot of this post written out...well really all of it and I was waiting on pictures and guess what.  My computer restarted and I lost it all!  Urg ah well.  So I figured I would rewrite it and then just post it since I still don't have the photos and it is almost a month past camp.  Oops :)  So here it goes...

Oh my camp, I don't even know where to start this this post.  But I guess I have to try.

From January 29th to February 2nd I had the opportunity to go to camp with the kids from Carpio.  The kids look forward to this opportunity all year long.   Instead of being cramped up in their houses and their concrete playgrounds in Carpio it gives them the opportunity to run and play outside in the green grass and have fun.  They also have the opportunity to be fed both physically and spiritually.  This year the bible study of the week was about Joseph.  Not only did the lessons speak to some of the kids it spoke to me also.  No matter where Joseph was or what he was going through he still trusted in God.  He knew that God was in control of his life.  Which is one one that I have been having to deal with because I'm not sure what I will be doing come the fall.  (But now...a month later, I do actually know what I'll be doing.  But that the time I didn't have a clue.)

My job at camp was to work with a muchacha (Julissa) from Carpio in a girl cabin.  We had 6 girls in our cabin ages 10 to 12 years old.  It was fun getting to know some of the girls that I had already seen in passing and get to know a couple of new ones.  They were fun to watch from the beginning of camp to the end of camp.  At the beginning they weren't to sure of each other but by the end of camp they were fast friends.

All the kids from camp were split into different color groups.  Our group was the young celestes.  We were teamed up with a boy cabin so in total we had 13 kids and 3 leaders in our group.  In the younger aged group there were 3 different color groups.  Celeste, Azul, and Naranja.  Ours happened to be the smallest group and we had the lovely boy cabin that had a hard time listening to things.  It made for some interesting times during the games but it was fun overall.

The days at camp were LONG!  But we actually got lucky this year...in past years the leaders of the camp actually planned games for 2 am.  So we had it lucky.  This year lights out were at 1100 and we had to be up and ready to go by 6 am.  Lets just say when we woke up at 530 no one wanted to get up.  The camp was held up in the mountains which meant that we got to wake up kinda in the clouds.  We got to see a lot of rainbows which was really really cool!  But it made for some interesting days because of the fact that it was kinda rainy and cold.  At night it was COLD and the cabins we stayed in weren't really made for cold.  Lets just say that there were some cracks in the walls and eves.  But we made it through.  It also didn't help that they didn't have hot water.  Well they did have some hot water tanks but by the time I got to shower...it was long gone!   Nothing like taking a cold shower trying to get mud out of your hair because you just had to do an obstacle course through the woods and mud.  But minus the cold shower it was fun.

Each day was the same.  They had a devotional time for the leaders of the cabins while the kids played games with the games leaders.  It was then breakfast time.  Which can be a little interesting with 150 kids and around 40 leaders.  But after the first days disaster of things they figured out the best way to serve us all was family style with each cabin sitting at its own table.  After breakfast it was devotional time with each cabin.  At the devotional time for the leaders we were given little packets for that days devotional with questions to ask and a part of Josephs story to go over.  After that it was game time.  Each game was different but fun in there own way.  Some where tough...like having to carry a skate board up a hill without using your hands, while holding hands with your whole cabin.  We the celeste actually won that game.  But it was mainly because of Li (the boy's leader), he ended up carrying the skateboard in his mouth.  Yeah..OUCH!  We had relay races, human tick tack toe, crossing the red sea, capture the flag, and so many other games.  After the games it was lunch time.  And let me tell you...these kids can eat!  After lunch there was a testimonial time in which one of the leaders shared their testimony.  After lunch it was time for games again.  More running around and getting tired out.  After the games it was free time.  Which meant that our girls wanted to swim in the pool.  But the thing about this pool is that it wasn't heated one bit what so ever.  Unless you count the heat from the sun.  So it made for some cold and shaky girls but they had fun.  After free time, it was time to sing some songs and watch the sunset.  Because the sunsets at 530 it is something that we could actually do!  Some days were a little harder to see the sunset because of the clouds but they were all still beautiful in their own way.  Then it was dinner time.  After dinner it was time to sing again.  These kids have more energy than I have ever seen.  But the thing that I found to be fun was that they really sang and worshiped God.  They were bouncing here and there and singing their hearts out.  It was then time to watch a play about what was going on in Joseph's life and what the story the next day was going to be about.  The kids loved the fact that it was their leaders who were putting on the play.  And yes...even I got roped into it.  I was a guard...which my girls found to be hysterical.  After that the kids were split into 2 groups...younger and older and we had another devotional about what we had learned that day.

That is basically what happened each and every day at camp.  The days were long but fun.  So much more happened but I want to get this posted before I forget once again.  :)
