Life
So I finally got my post about camp done and posted. But that means I am almost 4 weeks behind on what has been happening in my life. I'm trying to remember everything that has been happening.
So the first things to start off with, the weekend after camp (that Saturday) Alvin, Chio, Caleb, Luis (a leader from Carpio), 2 gringos who came down for camp, and I went to the beach for a couple of days for recuperation. It was so nice being able to relax at the beach...well as much as a 3 yr old will let you relax. But it was fun. We were there until Monday afternoon.
The rest of that week was a normal week. The clinic, kids club, bible study and watching little munchkins run around. But the major thing that happened was that school started back up for the kids. But because the new school that is being built in Carpio is still not finished the kids only go for 2 hrs a day. And in that 2 hours they get a lunch break. The kids go in 3 shifts to be able to fit them all in. Needless to say the leaders of CFCI in Carpio can't wait for the school to be finished so the kids can get a better education. Once the school building is finished the kids will be able to go for a half day instead of only 2 hrs, it will be more like 5 hrs.
The following week there was a group from OK that came down to do a medical caravan. In other words, Susi was busy helping them out which meant that there wouldn't be kids club on Monday or Wednesday afternoons, so I helped out after the clinic with the caravan. They also conned me into helping on Tuesday which is my day off. Well they really didn't have to work very hard to con me into doing it. But since I was helping them out I also got to do the same things they were doing. Monday night I was able to tag along to dinner with the group. But the group did things a little different that night. That night families from the community each hosted a couple of people from the group. So I got to tag along with a girl that I have been becoming friends with and her sister, who happened to be one of my campers and their mom and day. It was fun and nice to be able to see their house and be able to get know them a little better. Also Wednesday night, the church families put on a dinner for the group and then did a small little worship night with them which I was able to hang out with also. It is so neat, you might not be able to understand what they are saying or singing but you can tell that God is an important person in their lives.
That night, Susi asked if I wanted to go to the beach with the group. One of their members couldn't come down and I was able to to take his place at the hotel. So I got to tang along. The best part was that I was definitely the youngest person in the group. Most of them had grandchildren back home...and then there is me! :) Well a couple of them had younger kids but the parents were in their upper 30's if not 40's. But it was still fun to hang out with them and get to know them better. Before the beach we stopped at an aviary type zoo that Costa Rica has. The aviary rescues birds that are hurt or being kept in bad situations. They also breed endangered birds and release them into the wild after they are grown. They also have a couple of other animals there too. Crocodiles, turtles, wild pigs, coyotes, a panther, hedgehogs and a couple of sloths. I know there are a couple more animals but I can't remember them at the moment. From there we went to the beach. It was nice to be able to go again and relax and get to know the people of the group a little better.
Lets see what happened after that. The next 2 weeks have been normal. Clinic in the morning and different things in the afternoon. On Monday and Wednesdays I continue to have kids club with Susi and its fun to play and get to know the kids in those clubs even more. The clubs are smaller at the moment because of the fact that a lot of the kids are when it starts. Thursday afternoons, I've been doing a Bible study with Chio and some girls from Renuevos. Fridays I've been helping in the day care at Renuevos. Those munchkins are so full of energy but are so much fun! They definitely keep you on your toes.
The Saturday program has started back up after camp. The kids are enjoying being back and learning more in their groups. I haven't been able to help with the music group the past 2 weeks because of the fact that only one girl is learning piano and she hasn't been there for the past 2 weeks. But I've helped out with crafts group and had fun doing that.
Blessings
