Holy Week

Ok, I really am terrible at this thing.  I have been back in Costa Rica for 4 weeks and I have yet to write a blog post since I've been back.  So here it goes...well at least I hope it goes.  :)

It's hard to believe that my time here is almost over!  Where does time go?  It seems just like yesterday I was getting down here for the first time...and yet here I am, almost done.  June 9th is going to come really really really fast!  I'm already trying to figure out if I can come back in the fall.  This place is home.

Lets see...what can I tell you about my life down here.  The week after I got back was Holy Week, which meant a lot of business closed down including the programs CFCI do in Carpio.  Which meant I had a week free.  But it filled up rather fast.  On Tuesday of that week, a girl from Carpio, Keylin, invited me to go see a dormant volcano with her and some school friends.  It was good to see that with them and get to know Keylin a little bit better.

Then on Wednesday we (Alvin, Chio, and Caleb) were going to go to be beach but Alvin ended up getting a kidney stone so we had to postpone it.  Instead we went to an inside play park.  And yes I got roped into playing on the playground with Caleb.

Then on Thursday we went to the beach.  This time we went to Puntarenas.  This beach is relatively close to San Jose so we were able to go there and come back in the same day.  Instead of going straight to the beach we stopped at an aquarium that had not only some animals but a little kid pool that Caleb was more than willing to spend the day in.  He enjoyed it a lot!  Even got over his fear of "water slides".  It was fun to watch him having fun in the pool.  I enjoyed being able to read a book.  :)  It had been a while since I've been able to do some pleasure reading.  We then went to the actual beach to watch the sunrise.  And what did I do?  Forget to take any pictures of the actual beach and sunrise.  Oops!

Friday, Saturday and part of Sunday, I was able to tag along with the family to Chio's brothers place in San Carlos, out in the mountains.  This time around it was a little different than last time.  This time it was just us and Chio's mom and dad.  Much quieter than last time and I got a whole room to myself!  Saturday we went to the natural hot springs.  There is a nonactive volcano (a different one than the one I saw earlier) that still produces natural hot rivers.   The last time I was there we went and waded in one of the rivers.  This time, we went to a water park type thing that uses the hot water in pools and water slides and other fun water activities.   It was nice relaxing in a warm pool.

Sunday we had to come home early because it was voting day.  Back at the beginning of February Costa Rica held there vote for president.  Well at that time there were 6 people running for president and none of them got the necessary amount of votes needed to become president.  So they had to top 2 choices do more campaigning and then on April 1st it was time to vote again.  It was interesting to see how an election day works and where people/how they vote.  Voting day is always held on a Sunday so that they can use schools for polling place.  So because voting day was on April 1st there couldn't be the normal Easter celebration.  Per Chio there are normally parades and such throughout the streets of San Jose, but because there was voting taking place it wasn't aloud.  So I didn't get to experience a normal Easter in Costa Rica.

And then Monday it was back to work again and Holy week was over.
